Thoroughly clean the jar with hot soapy water. Rinse and leave to dry
Peal the pears and cut them in half lengthwise. Stir them through the lemon juice, to stop them from turning brown.
Put the water, amaretto and sugar in a pan and warm through until the sugar has dissolved.
Add the pears, lemon juice and spices to the pan. Bring everything to a boil.
Poach pears on a medium heat for about 20-30 minutes or until the pears are soft.
Take the pears from the liquid and arrange them in the jar. Pour the hot liquid on top, adding the spices as well.
Close the jar and store in the fridge. The longer you leave the pears in the liquid, the more flavour they’ll be able to soak up. When you want to re-heat them, make sure you use some of the liquid as well.
