Muhammara is a red pepper and walnut spread from the Middle East. (Not to be confused with muhammar, which is a rice dish from Bahrein!) It’s a dip that’s very easy and quick to make. It tastes especially great with some fresh pita bread.

Sweet chilli sauce
I’m not very fond of the store-bought version of sweet chilli sauces. Sauces like that tendĀ to be full of preservatives and thickening agents. Worst of all though, they don’t even taste that nice: sweet to the point of being cloying and not at all spicy.Ā Surely, any home-made version couldn’t beĀ worse?

When it comes to cooking, hummus is one of the simplest things to make. It doesn’t even require cooking. All you need are ingredients and a food processor. Hummus is also pretty healthy. With chickpeas being the main ingredient, it contains loads of minerals, vitamins, fibres and protein.
It’s even rumoured to be an aphrodisiac…
